Mala Venkatakrishnan, a resident of Warren Road, Mylapore for the last 22 years loves to decorate the Varalakshmi amman for the nombu very differently every year.
This year, she says she chose to dress the amman in a chess board theme to mark the Chess Olympiad. She weaved it using vazhai elai (plantain leaf).
Mala, formerly a Montessori teacher is now taking one on one online and physical classes in தமிழ் and हिन्दी.
Craft is her passion and is preparing for a different type of golu this year, her family says.
