Still-on drains work become water canals, areas around them very slushy after steady rains

‘Venice comes to Alwarpet’, said one.

‘C. P. Ramaswamy Road Canal’, said another.

Two of the many comments posted on this newspaper’s social media page, against a photo of the long, newly and half-done storm-water drain (SWD) being constructed alongside C. P. Ramaswamy Road, Alwarpet. The drain filled with water after steady rains this past week. ( main photo)

All around this civic work is slush.

On Dr. Ranga Road, perhaps the worst form of civic work undertaken, you see a melange of cables strewn by the pavement side in wet soil. ( photo above)

On TTK Road, the same story; and slush all around. Off Vivekananda College and on P. S. Sivaswami Salai, earth excavated to lay new hi-tension power cables ( shifted to accommodate work of Chennai Metro) has either sunk in or rendered the road a tad dangerous to negotiate.

Numerous work spots of Chennai Metro dotting Luz Church Road – TTK Road zone are either slowing down traffic or causing traffic jams; this though is going to be the feature for at least a year.

At monsoon time, it is highly unlikely if the situation at the street and road level will improve, civic-wise though in many areas, water has drained away fast.
