The air of uncertainty on the fortunes of their business hangs heavy on shops located at the east end of Kutchery Road.
Preliminary work on Chennai Metro is progressing and after a large piece of land was carved out of the TN Police Quarters for Metro work, workers have carved another area on one side of this busy road opposite Arundel Street.
Workers are now erecting traffic other sign boards here and this signals the start of major civil work here. Which means retails shops realise that movement will be heavily curtailed and this will affect business.
Some have plans to shift, others await the traffic regulations.
