The bhumi puja to construct a new wedding and community hall of Chennai Corporation in Alwarpet was held this March 9 morning.

The old hall which stood here, on C. P. Ramaswamy Road, near the south end of the flyover, was demolished.

Chennai South member of Parliament, Thamizhachi Thangapandian, Mylapore MLA, Dha Velu and the local area councillors of wards 123, Saraswathi  and of 125, Revathy, participated in this event. Teynampet zone GHCC officials and engineers were also present.

Velu says that while Thamizhachi Thangapandian has signed for giving Rs.3 crores from her MP area development fund, he has signed to give Rs.3 crores from the MLA area development fund.

The MLA says that while car parking is planned at the ground level, the halls will be spread across two floors and have modern facilities.

The previous hall was bare and offered very limited resources so it was booked off and on.

Meanwhile, a bhumi puja was also held in the campus of Chennai School campus on Bheemana Street in Alwarpet. A new anganwadi is to be built here.

The MLA says he has signed Rs.35 lakhs from his area development fund for this project.
