Vaikasi utsavam: Velleeswarar and Arjuna seen in  Thiruvetkalam Mahabaratha episode Thiru Kolam at temple

Devotees were in for a surprise on the fourth evening of the Vaikasi utsavam at Sri Velleeswarar Temple, Mylapore on Sunday, when the small talk amongst the devotees and Sripatham was on the IPL final, which was rained off.

The priests presented the historical episode at Thiruvetkalam, Chidambaram dating back to a story from the Mahabaratha and Arjuna securing the Pasupathi Astram from Shiva as a beautiful Thiru Kolam for the Naga vahana procession.

The story goes that Lord Shiva took the form of a hunter to protect Arjuna’s penance and killed an asura who tried to disrupt the penance.

Velleeswarar provided darshan around the four Mada streets in the form of a hunter while Arjuna was seen as an ascetic performing penance and then finally securing the destructive astram from the Lord.
