Queen Marys College is 109 years old. Staff, students and alumnae hold simple event

The staff and a few ‘old students’ of Queen Mary’s College held on Friday, July 14 a small event to mark 109 years of the institution of this college.

109 saplings were planted around the QMC centenary pillar located inside the campus.

109 balloons were released by the guests and ‘old students’ at this location.

The college band led a march as the college principal, Dr. Uma Maheswari, along with some faculty members and some ‘old’ students and the guests walked to the decorated space where the bust of Queen Mary of England stands.

Former QMC principals, Dr. Eugiene Pinto and Uttara Prabhu were present

Later, a cake with cream-marking that said ‘QMC 109’ was cut by the college principal in the Assembly hall of the college in the presence of students, staff and alumnae and the college song was played.

Arrangements for this event were made by the QMC Staff and Old Students Association ( QMC – SOSA) team led by secretary Dr. Eswari Ramesh and treasurer, S. Kalpana.

A large-sizedĀ  rangoli in the design of ‘QMC 109’ was created by students of geography and physical education departments, to mark this milestone.
