Archbishop says Holy Mass and blesses graves at Quibble Island cemetery

Under cloudy skies on Thursday evening, archbishop Rev. George Antonysamy blessed the graves in a symbolic manner at Quibble Island Cemetery in R A Puram, on the occasion of All Souls Day.

November 2 is the day on which Christians pray for the departed and many visit the graves of family members.

At Quibble, people had been visiting the cemetery since the morning of November 1 and the stream of visitors grew on Thursday morning.

By noon, many graves had flowers and candles placed on them.

In one corner, where the graves of nuns of a few congregations are located, nuns and others gathered to pray in silence; these graves were richly marked with fresh flowers and garlands.

The archbishop also said Holy Mass under a makeshift shamiana inside Quibble, which was lit up for the occasion. Father Arulraj, parish priest of St Thomas Cathedral, who also oversees Quibble’s management, was present.
