New flats of Habitat Board in R. A. Puram: delays despite formal opening anger families

Over 300 families are still made to wait despite allotment and payment made for get their flats at the newly constructed blocks of TN Urban Habitat Development Board in Valleeswaran Thottam, R A Puram.

They were promised these flats in 2021.

They are told that the meters for power supply are still to be set in place, that some minor ‘touch-up’ jobs have to be done.

The state minister for this sector, T. M. Anbarasan, joined by Mylapore MLA Dha Velu and the local DMK cadres set up a function locally recently to symbolically hand over keys to some people –  after the chief minister formally launched this and other projects.

“The corona pandemic caused a delay alright but we should have got the flats last year. Who will pay us for the rents that we shell out?”, cribs a person whose family’s documents have been okayed to get into a third floor flat here.

Some 570 families moved out of this campus in December 2019 and 630 flats have been built in three blocks here.

Allotment was made recently to all those entitled to residence here. But all of them have had to submit documents that meet the rules and only they are given the keys to the flat.
