Chennai Metro finally responds to commuters plea for shelters at bus stops

Chennai Metro officials finally woke up from their seats to respond to a stream of complaints, pleas and criticisms – to address the need for bus shelters at MTC bus stops created with the diversion of buses some five months ago due to the rail line work.

Its contractors have set up small shamiana shelters at many bus stops that were, till now, bald. And forgotten to raise these on Marina Loop Road.

The shamianas may not really last long – Chennai Metro’s projects in Mylapore zone may run for three years plus.

Meanwhile, Metro officials failed in erecting a bus shelter on R K Mutt Road, off South Mada Street junction because at least one private shop manager objected to the shelter, arguing that this would block the facade of the shop.

A large number of MTC commuters use this stop to board buses, being at a key junction.
