The Area Sabha meeting for Ward 123 of Mylapore set for December 18 was postponed due to inclement weather and poor turn out of local officials and residents.
The ward councillor, Saraswathy of the CPI-M was present at the office in the GCC campus off C. P. Ramaswamy Road in Alwarpet.
She said that she has decided to call for a meeting soon, after choosing a date after discussing with officials / engineers.
Ward 123 covers areas off Eldams Road and TTK Road, C P Ramaswamy Road , off Luz Church Road and Luz, Justice Sundaram Road and Luz Avenue, and areas south from here, till about Visalakshi Gardens.
People ask why such meets are held on weekdays when people are at work and why the communication is not shared widely.
The councillor says that state officials and engineers are not keen to attend Sunday meets since they treat that day as their ‘off’ day. She says she used WhatsApp groups to relay information.
Area Sabha meets are to be held regularly in a Ward and attended by the councillor and all state officials/ engineers who work in the area; a meet where residents raise issues, suggest plans and fruitful exchanges must take place.

– Note ; An earlier version of this report was recalled and the one here has been based on the latest information.
I had asked the Area Sabha Representative in the morning (on the WhatsApp chat where he had shared the meeting info) whether the meeting was going to be conducted or postponed. But there was no reply. I was told that the Area Sabha meeting was cancelled due to rain and was hurriedly held in the Councillor’s office because some people showed up. Though I respect Baskar, his news report misrepresents whatever happened and all the information and communications are not adequately represented.
Baskar’s first report erred on a key fact; the report was recalled and updated. This is that report.
