International Women’s Day celebration at Mandaveli’s Raja Street on March 8 took on a different tone this time – the community decided to spread the message of the importance of women’s healthcare.
The day began with residents making use of a campaign to drop off recyclable waste at a counter at one end of the street in the morning.
Later, a health check-up camp for women organised by Spectrum clinic in Raja Street was launched.

About 30 women made use of the services at the camp – where free tests for blood pressure, blood sugar, haemoglobin and bone mass density were taken and a specialist gynaecologist provided one-on-one consultation.
A master health checkup was available at a discounted price.
Maids who work in the area were motivated by the residents to take time out and get themselves tested and get free consultation from the doctors.
Dr Shanmugaboopathy spoke on osteoporosis, sharing tips on how one could identify the problem early and hoe people could address it.
