Water hyacinth is choking the Adyar river.
The massive growth and collection of this vegetation which flows downstream from the west side of the river has choked the boat jetty of the Madras Boat Club.
As a result, rowing by the Club members is near impossible on some days and a tall task on the other days. Every day, a small set of rowers are at the Club to indulge in their passion.
A rowing coach at the Club said that the hyacinth flows down and then spreads across the jetty zone daily. This has been happening for the past three weeks.
