Dancer-teacher Swapnasundari launches her book at Art Kin, Alwarpet

Art Kin Centre, in collaboration with Kanagasabai School of Bharatanatyam, hosted the Chennai book launch of ‘Āgama Bharatam’.

The event was held on July 23.

The book codifies the ancient dance systems of India’s temples that pertain to the āgama sastras. Volume 1 was launched with Art Kin Centre’s co-founder, Shruthe Raammohan, in conversation with the author, dancer-teacher Swapnasundari.

Swapna touched on the inspiration for the book, the drive to research and on the need for putting together all the different texts in a comprehensive manner.

There was a video presentation documenting Swapnasundari’s research across the temples of India. This was followed by a spontaneous live demonstration of the Navasandhi as codified by the author by young Kuchipudi dancer, D. Dilip.
