Educationist Dr Meena Muthiah, founder, Chettinad Vidyashram passes away

Dr. Meena Muthiah, a distinguished educationist passed away on May 2 ion Ooty. She was 92,

A note from the family said she dedicated her life to nurturing institutions and
empowering generations of students.

Best known for being the foubder of Chettinad Vidyashram school in MRC Nagar which went on to become a leading campus in the city, Meena Muthiah was also involved in many other family-run institutions and education projects and social causes. She was correspondent of Rani Meyyammai Girls’ Higher Secondary School, R A Puram and Kumararani Dr. Meena Muthiah College of Arts and Science.

To generations of students and their wards, teachers and campus staff, she was ‘Meena Aunty’.

She was active on campus till about a few years ago.

Meena Muthiah promoted crafts of the state ( she was a scholar of Tanjore painting) and supported many social causes and headed many a city institutions like Voluntary Health Services and International Red Cross which reached out to people.

The final rites will be held on May 3 (Sunday), between 9:00 am and 11:00 am, at the Mylapore
crematorium.
