New MLA of Mylapore lists three key, immediate issues to address; tackling drug abuse is one

Three issues seem to top the agenda of the newly elected Mylapore MLA, P. Venkataramanan of the TVK party.

He shared them with the media after receiving the certificate declaring him as the MLA, at the counting centre in CEG, Guindy. He said these issues were highlighted when he met people, mostly women of the zone during his campaigning –

  • Improve and increase washroom facilities, more for women in thickly inhabited zones
  • Improve the security for women by improving CCTV coverage and adding more where needed
  • Address the drug sales and abuse situation

  1. The foremost to shift the TASMAC from the VK Iyer Road, residents are really finding it to difficult to come out of their house, unable to park their own vehicles in front of their house. The place near CID quarters is literally an open public bar and public toilet . Full of Autos and two wheelers with loud radios parked haywire.

  2. much more needs to be done.
    1. finish the metro work. revisit whether the metro rail and existing parakkum rail need to overlap or not. this will ensure cost savings and reduction in road diversions.
    2. lay proper platforms so people can walk. ensure no vendors occupy it
    3. clean the mada streets and ensure food vendors dont occupy it. the temple is visited by many tourists but the road conditions are really bad,
