There are a dozen-odd eateries inside the kuppams off Loop Road ( Singaravelar Salai as it is now called). They not only cater to local households but also to daily wage workers, auto drivers and MTC staff.
One such enterprise in based in Mullaima Nagar, located at the south end of the road’s neighbourhood. It is locally named ‘ Uma akka Tiffin Kadai’ ( ask for it if you get lost!). They say it has been around for 20-plus years.
Located in. a tiny house, with bricks exposed, tin sheets providing shade and set in a row of small houses, this place is clean.

The breakfast is the big deal here – dosa, appam and muttai appam – are best sellers. The place is run by two sisters, Uma and Viji. The elderly one sits outside and cooks and serves vada, chutney and sambhar while the younger cooks inside and delivers through a window, much like the famed Janal Bajji Kadai in Mylapore.
Prices start at Rs,10 and regulars enjoy a hearty breakfast. MTC bus drivers and conductors park their buses in the Pattinapakkam terminus and walk north across the sand and kuppam to head here while others take a pathway behind the Amman temple on the Loop Road.
