Quality of water in Tholkappia Poonga indicates severe river pollution, says naturalist

The Adyar river’s estuary shows ominous signs.

This is an alert that Yuvan Aves, a city-based naturalist, writer and Nature-educator has shared in an online post.

Yuvan, posted a set of photos of the estuarine water inside the campus of Tholkappia Poonga in R A Puram and said that ‘the water is a paint-green algal-bloom right now. This area is now bird-less – an area where flocks of hundreds sat around just weeks ago.

‘The colour ( of the water) shows the sheer quantum of sewage flowing in, concentrated by summer heat and sand blockage,’, Yuvan noted.
