The MTC bus stand at Sri Anjaneyar Koil near M Ct M School on Luz Church Road has been ‘taken over’ by hawkers who sells flowers and puja articles to people who visit the f temples. This is a brick-mortar and old shelter, which is now a place for hawkers to stock materials and for vagabonds to rest.
Bus commuters are forced to wait for buses in the sun and they say that they find it inconvenient. Since MTC buses stop close to the barricaded zone of Chennai Metro work site ( where a station will come up) commuters now wait for buses near the school gate. They need a new bus shelter at this point.
Many daily wage workers, maids and office staff use this bus stop and with the daytime temperature as high as 40 – 32 degrees through the day, these commuters are forced to sweat it out.
Commuters want MTC to set up a new bus shelter.
CMRL has often failed to followup on such core facilities which state agencies must provide following the long-drawn Chennai Metro project.
It needed persistent pleas and e-mails by activists to get facilities like better bus shelters and seating at the ‘new’ bus stops in Mylapore and Mandaveli which were shifted to spots on the ‘diverted’ routes.
