Aadi pooram on Aug.14: grand celebrations lined up at Sri Kapali Temple

Aadi Pooram falls on August 14, Friday. There are some special events at Sri Kapaleeswarar Temple, Mylapore.

Goddess Karpagambal will be taken out in procession from the temple at about 7 a.m. to the Mandayam located inside the tank ( on its steps) on the eastern side and a special abhishekam will be performed here.

Then follows a procession in the temple zone; with the goddess decorated with bangles, as part of the valaikappu ritual symbolising divine feminine energy

One section of the mantapam inside the temple will also be decorated with hundreds of bangles for this occasion.

That evening, at about 5:30 p.m., the ambal will be in sandana kappu (sandal paste) and be seated in the valaiyal pandal.

After 7:30 p.m., the goddess, in a special alankaram, will be taken out in procession through the mada streets.
