Mylapore’s Mada Streets turned into a big bazaar on the eve of the festival of Vinayaka Chaturthi as shoppers stepped out on a Sunday to purchase all that they needed for the celebration.

Sunday morning on these streets was a tad dull even as dozens of hawkers piled up a variety of images of Vinayaka on their carts, thoranams, fruits and flowers were unloaded from mini vans and even children began to sell fancy umbrellas.

It was late in the evening, past the rahu kalam time that saw the Mada Streets packed with shoppers. Many taking their time to choose a Vinayaka image and others bargaining with hawker to pack flowers and fruits to take home.
