Dr. R. Krishnamurthy sastrigal, a renowned scholar in Advaita Vedanta, Mimamsa, and Sanskrit, and former principal of The Madras Sanskrit College passed away on Sept.28. He was 82.
He was decorated with many titles and presented awards for his scholarship. These include the Veda-Bhashya-Ratna (awarded by the Kanchi Mutt) and Vedanta-Visarada (awarded by the Sringeri Sharada Peedam) and Mahamahopadhyaya.
He spent over three decades teaching at The Madras Sanskrit College – teaching, researching and earning his doctorate in Sanskrit.
Post-retirement, he founded Brahma Vidya Bhavanam and the Mullaivasal Heritage Trust – the focus was on preservation of ancient oral traditions and delivering spiritual discourses.
His son is K. Ramasubramaniam, Prof,-in-charge at Centre for Traditional Indian Knowledge and Skills (CTIKS), Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.
He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter .
