Vivekananda College (Autonomous), Mylapore, has been providing ‘no cost’ noon meals on all working days since 2004 to students from economically disadvantaged sections of society.
Approximately 600 students are registered as beneficiaries under
this scheme. Each beneficiary is issued an identity card to
avail of the facility, and an average of 450 students benefit from the scheme.
Now, the college has decided to expand the ‘food for students’ project and will launch in October the ‘no cost’ breakfast facility.
The breakfast project is supported by the Akshaya Patra Foundation; its kitchen is located in Greames Road, Thousand Lights in the city.
This project will start on October 5, and will be inaugurated at 7:40 a.m. that day at the Vivekananda College campus, by Swami Satyajnanananda, president of Sri Ramakrishna Math, Mylapore.
