Chennai Trekking Club in association with The Hindu newspaper organsied a large scale Beach Cleanup drive this morning.
Volunteers gathered at different points on the coast, from the Marina Beach to Kovalam, outside the city off the East Coast Road and went about clearing waste thrown on the sands and on the waterfront.
Volunteers were divided into groups and given equipment to undertake this campaign. Tonnes of waste was cleared.
Groups undertook the cleaning on the Marina behind the Gandhi statue and Light House in the Mylapore neighborhood.
