This evening’s programme on the music and life of Thyagaraja is by autistic teens

If you are a Carnatic music rasika and free this Saturday evening ( Jan.22), looking for a different kind of programme to attend, then head to Bhavans on East Mada Street.

A music-rich presentation titled ‘ Life and Times of saint Thyagaraja’ is to be presented by Lakshmi Mohan and her group of students. These students are all autistic and have learnt music under Lakshmi as a means of rehabilitation and life improvement over many years.

This event also marks the day when artistes celebrate Thyagaraja, the great music composer on his samadhi day, singing kritis at his samadhi in Thiruvaiyaru, which happened this morning but in a limited manner due to pandemic protocols.

On Jan.22, 6 p.m. onwards. Open to all at the mail hall. Also webcast at www.bhavanschennai.org
