A week-long work of desilting of sewage drains is being carried out in the entire GCC ward 126. This area covers most parts of Mandavelipakkam and some areas of San Thome.
Local councillor Amirda Varshini of the Congress party says that the work was started on Lazaris Church Road and will be done daily to cover the Ward.
This is a precautionary measure taken before the monsoon season, the councillor said. She says a jet-rodding machine-lorry sucks out the waste so nothing is left dumped by the street sides.
Metrowater workers are undertaking this work.
