300 students from the Mylapore zone were given Rs.3,000 each to mark the birth anniversary celebration of late DMK leader and former chief minister M. Karunanidhi, at an event organised by the local unit of the DMK party recently.
Mylapore MLA Dha Velu of the DMK and Chennai South Member of Parliament, Thamizhachi Thangapandian ( DMK) were the main guests at this event held at the Muthamizh Peravai hall near the Adyar bridge.
Velu says that the funds for this donation were contributed by him, the DMK local leaders and unit members and that he has been holding this event every year for sometime.
“We chose needy students from the petitions I got at my office,” said Dha Velu. “Our party members also submitted applications of students of their zones.”
