Landmark of Luz Circle is going down

One of Luz Circle’s landmarks will be no more. The shopping complex behind Sri Navashakti Vinayaka Temple was not only a Mylapore showpiece but also a buzzing shopping centre which housed about 40 shops.

This past week, the machines of Chennai Metro contractors began to pull down most portions of this complex to make space for preliminary underground rail line work.

This complex came up on what was agricultural land owned by a zamindar, some 75 years ago, say owners of shops that existed here till yesterday. Later, the promoters of Vivek & Co. bought it and while some shops here continued to do good business, new ventures were launched.
