Chennai Metro; the small bridge is going, going . . .

It is taking time to crack and demolish the small old bridge across the Buckingham Canal alongside Thirumylai MRTS railway station. Another little landmark lost to the development of rail lines and stations of Chennai Metro.

Soon, this bridge that many crossed over decades, many oblivious that a bridge existed here, will be a memory.

A bridge that ran over what is now a wholly polluted Canal, once the waterways for boats that brought firewood, salt and veggies to Mylapore’s Thanirthurai market, which is also gone.

After the parapet wall was demolished by JCBs, the contractors of CMRL deployed machinery to clear the whole stretch . This whole bridge will be removed soon.

This is a no-go zone for vehicles in Luz.
