- Ask the Economics Offences Wing (EOW) of TN Police to file final chargesheet which has been delayed.
- Order the police to conduct a. forensic audit of funds management in oder to trace the path of the funds used in unrelated projects / investments.
- These are two key requests which have been made by a community of depositors of Mylapore Hindu Permanent Fund Nidhi Ltd to the newly elected Mylapore MLA at a meeting they had with him at his office in Alwarpet this week. They presented him with all the key documents on the issue and they said later that the MLA promised to study the issue and revert in a week’s time.
Meanwhile, the main accused Devanathan Yadav, MD of the Fund who has been in a jail in Cuddalore, had got relief from the Madras High Court for medical examination at JIPMER in Puducherry, following an appeal his lawyers made this week.
Yadav had got temporary bail once in the past but could not comply with the court order to arrange for a deposit of Rs.100 crores and surrendered voluntarily.
Courts have repeatedly denied bail on his applications. He is charged with swindling some Rs.600 crores from about 5000 plus depositors.
Activists on the Fund depositors side say that the run-up to Assembly elections and thereafter have affected the pace of the case and they have decided to pursue it on different fronts. Seeking support from the new state government is their first move now.
Many depositors say they want the EOW to file the chargesheet since there is an enormous amount of data and proof on the case. In fact, some 20 volunteers spent days last year to document the thousands of complaints and details on the Fund company to help the short-staffed police department.
They say many depositors seem resigned now and that only a fast track police and judicial process can give them hope.
