This group is working round the clock to help people during this lock down

“We are willing to do any kind of service to people even at midnight,” says Appu, a resident of Mundagakanni Amman Kovil Main Road.

Since lockdown, Appu along with a group of social workers in Mylapore has been working round the clock to help people especially the poor.

From providing masks and hand sanitisers to Conservancy workers to offering provisions for families in kuppams they do it all.

You can ring them up at any time of the day and they will be quick to arrive at your doorstep with the items you request.

Riding on their two-wheelers the boys also deliver medicines to senior citizens who are unable to step out.

Says Appu, who works at a building service centre, “I do this service along with my friends Paul Pradeep, ‘Madras’ Harish, Sagar, Neelakandan, Tilak, Dinesh, Vijayakumar, Saravanan, and Lingamurthy. Most of us belong to the political party Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM). And the party is sponsoring for the work we do.”

He says 50 other volunteers also help them in this effort. “We have got permission from the Mylapore Police station to carry out this work.”

Recently, this group also distributed raw rice to some 90 families at areas including Dooming kuppam, Visalakshi thotam, and Nochikuppam. They now plan to distribute cooked food to the homeless people around the city. People who need their services may contact Appu at 7550028101.
