These seniors take it one day at a time..

For these seniors, the lockdown has brought on certain difficulties. But life goes on, they say.

N. Ramakrishnan is a 78 year old resident of Thiruveedhi Amman Koil Street, Mandaveli. He says, “We have been able to manage so far. We bought provisions just before the lockdown for about a month and so we don’t have an immediate need right now. I have been buying medicines from a pharmacy in Mandaveli for almost two decades now and so all I need to do is to call them with the list and they deliver. In the absence of maids doing the housework becomes a little strenuous for both me and my wife who is also a senior. But we don’t have a choice and so we do whatever little we can, rest and then resume work”.

He adds that his community has been very helpful. They have given all the seniors a list of volunteers who are willing to supply provisions or medicines in case they need it.

At. C. P. Ramaswamy Road, Alwarpet, 86 year old N. V. S. Manian has different problems. His wife is bedridden and she needs constant medical attention. He says, “Two nurses stay with us full time to take care of my wife but cooking food and going out for provisions is still a challenge. We have been able to manage so far but I am also looking at delivery options”.
