Early on Monday morning, a couple of people sat around heaps of earthen lamps which had bene unloaded by lorries on the pavement of Luz Church Road.
They would create smaller lots of the lamps which had been transported from the Vriddachalam area to the city, we were told, and these lots would be carted by the hawkers of the Mada Streets around Sri Kapali Temple later in the day to be sold for the oncoming Karthigai Deepam fest.
The lamps are in a variety of sizes and shapes and are on sale later this evening, mostly on the North and South Mada Streets of Mylapore.
