Series on short stories, Tamil and English – reading and performances. Starts July 8 in Alwarpet.

Chirukathaikal Pesuvom and Speaking Stories is a performance series based on short stories and has been curated by Mandaveli-based theatre-person Prasanna Ramaswamy.
Prasanna says the performance is ‘located in the intermediary space of drama and reading’.
There are sessions in Tamil, titled “Sinnanciru Kathaikal Pesuvom” and in English, titled ‘Speaking Stories’.
They intend to bring to the audience an experience of listening to the written word, detailing stories that reflect life – through professional actors.
This is the first of a series of performances to be presented monthly once, by Chennai Art Theatre at Medai – The Stage, a venue in Alwarpet.
The first of the series brings Tamil short stories by celebrated writer Thi. Janakiraman in Tamil, while the English sessions are  set to focus on stories by  Chennai based writers first and later on, Indian English short stories as well as English translations of Tamil and Indian language writers’ stories.
