T. P. Vivekanand, sports journalist, advertising professional and passionate sportsperson passed away on February 9. He was a resident of R. A. Puram.
Vivekanand was a true-blue Madrasvasi. He grew up in Nandanam and lived in many parts of the city, before becoming a resident of R. A. Puram over the last three years.
An advertising and media professional, he had many interests and passions that straddled the world of sport and literature.
Sport was in his blood. His father, T. D. Parthasarathy was the sports correspondent of ‘The Hindu’ newspaper, and later the editor of the hugely popular magazine of yesteryear, ‘Sport & Pastime’.
Vivek was an excellent cricketer – he opened the batting for Presidency College and bowled leg spin. He was a skilled swimmer, tennis player, golfer and a bridge aficionado. He was also a keen quizzer and crazy about crosswords.
He began his work-life as a sports reporter for ‘The Mail’, the now defunct but once popular evening newspaper of Madras.
He later moved to advertising, working for agencies like MAA, Adwave, Contract, Mudra, and Fifth Estate.
Vivek’s sharp intellect, direct and articulate speech and deep knowledge about various subjects, and his sense of humour made him a valuable colleague and a much-loved friend, his family said.
The family’s address : No.1, Muruga Krupa Apartments, 18/19, R K Nagar 1st Cross Street, R A Puram. Ph – 9962583273 (Kanchana Vasudevan)
