HOW FREE TRANSPORT FOR SENIORS MADE VOTING EASY.
We exercised our democratic duty, and with great ease.
We read a news item in The Hindu, which said free transport to voting booths will be available to senior citizens if the given numbers were called. This was provided by Election Commission.
We called – the person at the other end – Sheba was very courteous and helpful, as were the other persons who answered later when he called.
We decided to avail ourselves of this service, as our driver had gone to his city to vote.
As promised, a van (equipped with wheelchairs) came to our residence in Alwarpet and took us to the booth.
The van came with two aides, Prakash and Vijay Kumar, apart from the driver Arun to help us board the vehicle.
The voting procedure was a breeze, since we were in the rolls and had our IDs. Very efficient.
And we were back home soon.

MANY YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN MAN PARTIES’ DESKS AT STRETE CORNERS
We spotted many young men and women involved in ‘poll duty today. Some were party card holders, but some seemed to be friends.
The young manned party counters which helped voters get voter slips or affirmation of the venue of polling.
Obviously, the young dominated the stalls of TVK party, but some didnt seem serious.
Near the Hamilton Bridge junction in a thick residential zone of small houses and huts, were many counters.
A young woman, with two others who manned a AIADMK counter, teased two other youths who were around the TVK counter.
“Put your vote for Vijay,” she said.
“But she is sitting with AIADMK people,” we countered, lightly.
“We have TVK people elsewhere too,” the man said lightly.

They were posted to guide voters at the 8 booths in a school off the church on Lazarus Church Road.
And all the women were in saris of one design.

Everything is going on well. It is a good move that restaurants were closed upto 4pm so that hotel employees can go and cast their vote..Only issue today 23/4 is a murtham day and lot of marriage was going on. Some of people have gone outside city for attending the marriage.
